What is a skin machine?

Skin machines are specialized packaging systems that attach products directly to a carrier card using a transparent plastic film. This so-called skin packaging acts like a second skin: the film fits exactly to the contours of the product and bonds firmly to the cardboard or a special carrier board. The result is a stable, visually appealing and hygienic packaging solution.

Sequence of the packaging process

Preparation of the packaging unit: The product is placed on a printed or neutral cardboard card. The skin film, which is stretched into a film frame, is placed on top.

Thermal formability: The film is heated evenly until it is elastic enough to be formed. Modern machines use precise temperature controls to prevent the material from overheating.

Vacuum forming: A vacuum pump is used to extract the air between the product, film and carton. As a result, the film fits snugly to any contour - even with complex or irregular shapes.

Cooling and stabilization: After the vacuum process, the film cools down, hardens and holds the product firmly on the card.

Finishing: Excess film remnants are cut to size so that the finished skin packaging is ready for sale or dispatch.
