Packaging and protecting sensitive pharmaceuticals - Med-X-Press

More structured, faster, better - BVS optimizes packaging process at Med-X-Press

Med-X-Press GmbH is a medium-sized company based in Goslar and is one of the leading providers of specialized healthcare logistics in Germany. With short decision-making processes and optimal transport connections, Med-X-Press offers efficient solutions for the storage and distribution of pharmaceutical products.

The company has developed rapidly since it was founded in 2005. Customer satisfaction has fostered growth and led to the expansion of the service portfolio. Med-X-Press is Germany's largest provider of BtM logistics and the first pharmaceutical logistics provider with GDP certification and GMP certification.

Initial situation

The packaging situation in 2019 was characterized by challenges: Too small, confusing and unstructured, with paper as filling material and centralized production, which requires high stock levels. At the beginning of 2019, the daily parcel volume was 450 boxes. The work processes were characterized by many routes and work steps per box.
Every order was double-checked using the dual control principle, which further slowed down the process. The cramped space conditions exacerbated the problem.

Solution

A new, more efficient, and structured packaging concept was developed due to limited space. Two were planned. Double workstations with optimized workflows. The four-eyes principle should be maintained to ensure quality.
Ergonomics have been improved to increase working conditions, increase package volume, and optimize processing. Hub unit with scale eases the lifting and weighing of packages and the Paper solution is ready on the table. The goal was to speed up the packaging process and improve productivity and working conditions.

Result

Packaging - As much as necessary,
as little as possible

BVS uses the NaturePak label for products that enable ecologically sound use, reduce CO2 emissions and generate less waste, regardless of the packaging material used.

Our strategy

  • Less packaging means less waste
  • Better protection through high quality
  • Packaging materials made from recycled raw materials or equivalent proportions
  • Economical packaging systems reduce material and energy consumption
  • Ecological customer solutions regardless of material
  • Objective information about different packaging materials

Packaging made from recycled paper

Paper pays off for people and the environment in the long term. It is even better to use paper with a high recycled content. Recycled paper optimizes water and energy consumption and thus protects the environment and climate by reducing waste. Recycled paper offers a wide range of added value for all users.

  • Protects the environment and reduces CO2 emissions
  • Saves energy and water
  • Less waste through optimal recycling

Plastic packaging with recycled content

Polyethylene films are increasingly being produced with a proportion of recycled material, which - as far as technically possible - is being continuously increased. They are the most modern and safest quality packaging for all branches of industry. Due to their low density and excellent physical and mechanical properties, PE films have major advantages over paper, cardboard, metal and glass.

  • Protects the environment and reduces CO2 emissions
  • Can be recycled again and again
  • Is a lightweight material with a high protective effect
  • Significantly reduces food waste when used in the food industry
  • Generates much less waste than glass, metal or paper
