What is a strapping machine?

Strapping machines are specialized devices that hold goods firmly together during transport and storage with a sturdy strapping band. The strap acts as an additional protective belt that holds pallets, boxes or even irregularly shaped goods in place, preventing movement and damage during transportation.

Technical mode of operation

The basic principle is always the same: the strapping is guided around the packaged goods, pulled taut and securely sealed. Plastics such as polypropylene (PP) or polyester (PET) are mainly used, but steel straps are also used less frequently for particularly heavy or sharp-edged loads. Modern machines use heat welding or friction welding for sealing. This eliminates the need for additional metal clamps and saves material.

Device types

Semi-automatic strapping machines: The operator guides the strap around the packaged item by hand, while the machine takes care of tensioning and sealing. They are ideal for smaller quantities or changing packaged goods.

Fully automatic strapping machines: These work almost independently. They recognize the packaged goods by sensor, automatically apply the strap, tension it and close the seal - often as part of a complete packaging line.

Special versions: There are side-entry models for low or wide products, horizontal strapping systems for pallets and mobile battery strapping devices for flexible use directly at the storage location.
